Anastacia Lyn Newkirk was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 17, 1968, but due to the divorce of the parents (her father, Robert Newkirk, left the family when Anastacia was just 14 years) she moved to New York City, where she attended the "Professional Children's School" in Manhattan.
Her interest in the entertainment world has been born because her parents were artists too. Her mother was a Theatre actress and her father sang in nightclubs and hotels. Her taste for the freestyle grew up as a result either of the nights out, accompanied by her sister Shawn, but also by her taste for poetry and the music of Elton John and Barbra Streisand.
After working with several producers, which imposed conditions on her performance art, Anastacia found with OG Pierce, producer, songwriter and keyboardist in Los Angeles, the freedom of expression she needed, and so she recorded, the tape, “One More Chance”.
Later, Anastacia joined a talent contest of MTV, “The Cut”, competing with the theme “Not That Kind” and even though she did not win, she was one of ten finalists from a list of one hundred and sixty competitors. After this appearance, in 1999, Anastacia signed with Daylight Records label and in 2000 released the “Not That Kind” album, followed by the second album “Freak of Nature” in November 2001. In 2002, she released her first DVD called “Anastacia The Video Collection”.
Between December 2002 and January 2003, after conducting several medical examinations, Anastacia was diagnosed with breast cancer, but the singer overcame the illness and had the tumor removed by placing prosthesis in February 2003.
In 2004, she launched the third album which was her first self-titled called “Anastacia” with a bonus DVD disc. This album went platinum and was in sixth place of the best selling CD charts of that year.
During 2005, there was a big change in her artistic life journey with the launch of her first best-of album called “Pieces Of A Dream”. And in March 2006, Anastacia released her second DVD, “Live At Last”, which was recorded live during one of the concerts of her tour in Germany.
In August 2006, she gave her career a new direction by joining the German fashion designer, s. Oliver. On day 17, of the same month, she presented her clothing line in the German cities of Hamburg and Cologne, followed by the cities of Munich and Vienna. Anastacia reappeared on July 1st, to participate in a tribute concert in memory of Princess Diana, performing the famous song “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.
After three years, Anastacia returned to the music world with a new style, image and label. On October, 27, 2008, she released her fourth album called “Heavy Rotation“. She had chosen this name because it is an expression which DJs use a lot and according to her, it has also a more personal meaning, “Life can be heavy, but everything has an outcome until something happens“. After promoting the album in some European countries in 2009, Anastacia went on a tour called “Heavy Rotation Tour“.
Later on, Anastacia started a new musical project together with other singers, Lulu, Chaka Khan and Heather Small, called “Here Come The Girls“ that had a first leg on the final of 2009 and a second one in 2010, but in the UK only.
On March 2010, Anastacia performed for the “Art On Ice“ event, in 2011 for the “Natalia Meets Anastacia“ and also joined the panel of the two TV shows, “Don’t Stop Believing“ (2010) and “X Factor UK“ (2012). In the Summer of 2011 and 2012, the singer gave a bunch of concerts for private events and at festivals that took place in several European countries including Portugal on May, 28, 2011 in Porto and on June, 21, 2012, at “Festival Marés Vivas“.
After 4 years without launching an album, Anastacia got back to the musical scene, not with one, but two albums. By leaving “Mercury Records“, she becomes a BMG artist and on November 9, 2012, she launched her new album of male cover songs called “It’s A Man’s World“.
Anastacia always wanted to have an album of covers and now thanks to BMG that opportunity appeared! It was during the production of her upcoming album of originals (that was scheduled to be released at the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014), and while listening to other artists music she got the inspiration she needed! With 10 tracks, plus a bonus one available on iTunes only, this cover album counts unique and original versions of songs by bands like Foo Fighters, U2 and Aerosmith.
Months later, in December 2012, the tour for this new album, which would take place in Europe, was announced. However, this tour didn’t happen because in February 2013, Anastacia revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.
Because of that, Anastacia retired for a few months to fight cancer and to undergo a double mastectomy that was reported internationally.
In July 20, 2013, the singer revealed on Twitter that she was cancer free and returned to the stage later and appeared in some events as well.
In the year of 2014, Anastacia began the promotion of her single “Stupid Little Things” (song from her album of originals “Resurrection” which was released in May) and travelled to many European countries where she was interviewed and made several appearances.
With the launch of “Resurrection”, Anastacia gave lots of concerts during the summer of the same year and was also a judge in the German edition of the famous TV show “Rising Star”.
In October 2014, the singer began a new tour that ended ahead of schedule, stopping in five countries only, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Italy, as Anastacia became ill with a severe laryngitis.
In the meantime, the rest of the tour was rescheduled to 2015 and extended to several countries including Belarus and Australia.
During the summer of 2015, Anastacia also performed at musical festivals and announced, through her social networks and interviews, that she would be launching a jewelry line and reunite with her original label Sony Music Entertainment for her new upcoming album, a compilation called 'Ultimate Collection'.
On September 29, 2015, Anastacia released "Take This Chance", her first original single from the album and a month later, on October 23, 2015, her second, a brand new cover of Christina Aguilera's song "Army Of Me".
The "Ultimate Collection" was officially out worldwide on November 6, 2015 and peaked in the top ten of the UK charts, giving the singer her 6th top ten album in Britain.
Following the album release, Anastacia made several TV appearances, events and announced the duet with Spanish band, Auryn, called "Who's Loving You" and an European tour between that took place from April to August of 2016.
